Disfigure is a single-player horde-survivor game that casts its arena in shadow, turning limited sight into a central part of its horror design. Players can switch between Circle Vision, which reveals nearby space, and Cone Vision, which reaches farther in one direction. With monsters potentially hidden beyond the visible area, awareness and the choice of where to look are integral to surviving escalating waves and boss encounters.
Combat develops through experience gained from enemies, which unlocks upgrade choices that can substantially alter a run. The documented possibilities include powers such as lightning, fire, and a whirlwind of swords, while the vision system itself can be shaped toward greater power or clearer sight. Between runs, Credits earned during play unlock weapons, gear, and permanent upgrades; weapons bring their own projectiles and perks. The game also lists run mutations that modify its rules, alongside quests and permanent progression.
Its format combines short, restartable runs with several ways to vary a challenge, including Endless Mode, multiple difficulty levels, and special challenge modes. Three handcrafted maps, a roster of enemies and bosses, manual aiming with an aim-assist toggle, and a retro grimdark art style give the survival loop its particular character.
