Disciples II: Gallean’s Return gathers the base game, Dark Prophecy, and two standalone expansions in one compilation. Its fantasy conflict is shaped by rival factions and divine ambitions: the Empire faces a struggle over its vacant throne and an oppressive Inquisition, while the Mountain Clans seek a way to commune with their god, Wotan. The other expansion turns to the Legions of the Damned and the Undead Hordes, whose competing aims are tied to the rebirth of the Elven god and Gallean.
The strategy design supports both expansive campaigns and shorter, map-based contests. A random map generator and support for large maps give skirmishes room to vary, while the computer AI, high-level unit AI support, and auto-resolve combat offer different ways to handle battles. Players can capture capitals, and the compilation includes campaign material alongside skirmish and multiplayer maps.
Its presentation and tools add further character to the package. Multiple resolutions, an improved interface and editor, and an enhanced chat interface accompany the strategy features; the collection also includes new battle and capital backgrounds, music, and concept art. The result is a compilation built around faction-driven fantasy warfare, with both campaign storytelling and map-based play represented in its documented contents.
