DiRT 4 frames off-road racing as a test of nerve as much as control, putting drivers on routes where narrow gaps, steep drops and jumps are part of the appeal. Its events span classic rally, FIA World Rallycross, truck and buggy races, and open-ended Joyride challenges. Five rally locations across Australia, Spain, Michigan, Sweden and Wales provide the settings for competition across several disciplines.
A defining feature is Your Stage, a route-generation tool that builds rally stages from a chosen location and route parameters. Players can shape routes toward longer, more technical tests or simpler, shorter drives, then race a created stage, share it with friends and challenge them to beat a time. That makes course design and time-trial challenges part of the game’s identity, rather than limiting rally play to fixed routes.
The wider package also includes a career in which players create a driver, compete across disciplines, earn sponsors and build a team, alongside daily, weekly and month-long challenges against other players. Vehicle tuning responds to track and weather conditions, while damage and repairs bring team management into the racing between stages.
