Dinkum pairs the rhythms of a town-building life sim with the risks of exploring a rugged island. Players begin with a campfire and sleeping bag, then gather resources and develop a settlement that can grow to include shops, fountains, flower beds, and windmills. The island’s deserts, forests, and hidden mines offer a contrasting frontier beyond the town.
Daily activities range from planting crops and raising animals to fishing, catching bugs, and searching for ores. Seasons and weather affect crop growth, while wild animals make preparation matter: players can use tools and weapons, fight directly, or set traps. Harvests and foraged goods can be sold for Dinks, which go back into the town’s growth; visitors may arrive as new shops open, and some may settle permanently. Decorating homes, reshaping the island, and changing a character’s appearance give the building side a personal touch.
Dinkum supports both solo play and play with friends, including online co-op.
