Desperados III is a story-driven tactical stealth game set in a ruthless Wild West, and a prequel to Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive. John Cooper’s quest for redemption brings him together with Kate, Doc McCoy, Hector and Isabelle. Their journey moves through rural towns, swamps and riverbanks toward a dramatic showdown, giving the game a narrative frame for its carefully planned encounters.
The crew’s distinct abilities make coordination central to play. Cooper can use a knife quietly or fire his revolvers at multiple foes; Hector relies on a bear trap and axe, while McCoy has lures, knockout gas, poison syringes and a long-range pistol. Kate can use disguises to fool enemies and has a hidden gun. Players choose how to meet challenges, combining character skills and deciding between stealth or open gunfire, as well as non-lethal or deadly attacks. Difficulty settings and replay challenges provide further ways to tailor play.
Showdown mode lets players pause at any time to respond to ambushes or surprise attacks, complementing the game’s emphasis on deliberate planning and execution. Its listed play format is single-player, so the player-count context is individual play rather than a shared multiplayer session. The focus is on controlling a team’s capabilities to solve encounters in different ways, not on competing against other players.
