Desktop Mate turns the desktop itself into a small character stage. Drag a character onto an open window and it sits on top, hopping between windows as you work. The design is deliberately ambient: characters can be resized, and when you are not using them they move to the edge of the screen, so their presence need not take over the display.
Interaction comes from brief, playful responses rather than a separate game session. Characters chase and play with the mouse cursor, while clicks, head pats and other actions can trigger voice lines and gestures. A built-in alarm lets a character announce a set time. Certain pairs also have special exchanges and synchronized movements; the listing gives Kagamine Rin and Len as an example. Several characters can appear together, though the multi-character feature is described as available only in the beta version. A separate integration makes characters react to actions in Mahjong Soul, with the Chibi Ichihime DLC required.
Its listed activities are designed to accompany other computer use, with optional character interactions and an alarm rather than a described multiplayer session. A count therefore reflects activity in this utility, while its everyday use can be woven around work at the desktop.
