Delta Particles is a single-player modification for Half-Life, following technical engineer Nick Farrell after the resonance cascade at Black Mesa brings beings from Xen to Earth. Farrell works at Delta Base, a scientific complex in the Nevada desert and a rival to Black Mesa in experimental teleportation research. The crisis links this new setting to the familiar alien incursion, while placing the protagonist in the role of an engineer caught up in events beyond his control.
The mod’s campaign is described as four chapters across 35 maps, with exploration spanning scientific laboratories and industrial areas. Its arsenal combines new weapons with reworked older ones, giving the action a distinct set of tools within the Half-Life universe. The campaign also introduces new characters and a story centered on the Delta Base facility, rather than simply revisiting Black Mesa’s spaces.
Delta Particles presents itself as a total conversion built around new assets, including textures, sounds and models. A dark ambient soundtrack by Iron Cthulhu Apocalypse and Out of Hell supports the gloomy scientific-complex atmosphere, while Xen maps bring the campaign back to the alien world. The result is a substantial single-player mod whose identity comes from its new facility, cast, environments and audiovisual presentation.
