Defend The Highlands turns a fantasy of defending Scotland into a comic blend of tower defense and real-time strategy. Players lead a band of Scotsmen under pub owner Alfredo, building defenses and recruiting fighters against an English invasion. The conflict ranges across locations in Scotland, Wales and England, with deliberately absurd opponents and a collection of Scottish-themed weapons and structures.
Its key twist is that constructing a tower is not enough: Scotsmen must also be assigned to man it. Players recruit them by playing bagpipes, while protecting the musicians, and capture oat farms to sustain the porridge stockpile. Between those demands, the game asks players to manage their defenses, command hero characters and improve their troops and structures. The result is a strategy game built around juggling battlefield positions and comic resource management, rather than relying on unattended towers alone.
The documented play formats are a twenty-level story mode and custom skirmish matches.
