In Death’s Door, a Crow’s routine work reaping the dead takes a strange turn when an assigned soul is stolen. The trail leads into a realm untouched by death, where creatures have grown beyond their expiry and are driven by greed and power. That premise gives the adventure its distinctive contrast: bureaucratic soul-collecting meets a bleak, peculiar world, with hope offered to its weird and wonderful inhabitants.
Combat is built around melee weapons, arrows and magic, with beasts and demigods standing in the way. The game warns that mistakes are punished and victories rewarded, while character-stat customization and acquired abilities and upgrades let players shape their edge. Exploration beyond the Doors adds another thread, as twisted inhabitants and hidden secrets share space with colossal tyrants whose own stories and motivations deepen the pursuit.
Its somber yet darkly comedic story promises questions about the flow of souls, the Crows and the origin of the Doors, giving the Crow’s stolen-soul assignment a larger purpose than simply defeating the next foe.
