Death Howl follows Ro, a hunter grieving the loss of her son, as she enters a myth-shrouded Spirit World hoping to bring him back. This dark adventure frames its exploration around her search through a world of strange spirits and forgotten lore. Quests and challenges can affect her deck, tying encounters with the realm’s inhabitants to her preparations for future fights.
Combat takes place on a grid, where each move matters against restless spirits, distinct enemy types, bosses and mini-bosses. Ro can craft cards and build synergistic decks around approaches such as poison, blocking, retaliation or movement, then discover shamanic totems with unique effects. Environmental hazards and boons also feature in battles, giving the tactical design several elements to consider alongside card choices and positioning.
Listed as a single-player adventure and strategy game, Death Howl is designed around one player’s journey rather than a shared multiplayer format.
