In Deadlings: Rotten Edition, Death is bored and friendless, so he starts Project Deadlings: a factory-based effort to build and train an army of zombie minions. The premise frames the game’s arcade side-scrolling levels as a series of increasingly dangerous routes through Death’s laboratory, where puzzles and lethal traps stand between the minions and their goal.
Progress depends on choosing among four minion types with sharply different abilities. Agile Bonesack can run and jump, Creep climbs walls and ceilings, cautious Lazybrain moves slowly, and Stencher uses gas clouds to fly. Those contrasting skills give the puzzle-platforming its strategic edge: navigating a maze means matching a minion’s capabilities to its obstacles, not simply pushing forward with one all-purpose character.
The Rotten Edition pairs the main level set with a Nightmare mode for a tougher challenge, and its listed additions include bonus levels, extra Nightmare stages, achievements, leaderboards, trading cards and badges. Full controller support is also noted for this edition. Together, the side-scrolling action, ability-based route solving and separate challenge mode define a compactly focused single-player design, with Death’s absurd training project providing its macabre comic frame.
