Deadbreed® is a free-to-play Gothic RPG Online Battle Arena, pairing team combat with a dark fantasy setting. Its defining idea is that equipment shapes more than appearance: changing a character’s gear can alter its attacks, range and fighting role. A sword and shield, for example, set up close-range melee, while a bow turns that same character into an archer.
Rather than locking characters into fixed classes, Deadbreed lets any character take on roles such as fighter, mage, tank or assassin through equipment choices. Loadouts can also be changed mid-game, giving players room to adapt item builds to a character’s abilities, their opponents and the situation. The arenas add their own tactical twists, with features including a summonable troll, a transformation into a giant golem and a bell that calls an undead army.
The arenas share a broad objective: break through the gates’ crux, enter the citadel and defeat the opposing team’s Sentinel end boss. Dungeons within each arena offer another layer for players familiar with hack-and-slash games. Deadbreed’s design therefore brings together role-flexible character builds, arena-specific choices and a clear push toward a heavily defended final target. Its historical service announcement said the game would close on January 31, 2017, so the described online experience should be understood in that context.
