DARKEST DAYS places survival in a world devastated by a sudden zombie virus outbreak. The journey begins in Sand Creek, then ranges across a seamless open world that includes desert villages, snow-covered islands and resort cities. Exploration is tied to a larger mystery: survivors seek the origins of the outbreak while making their own way through the wasteland.
Survival combines shooting with vehicle travel and settlement-building. Players can use cars, trucks, police vehicles and ambulances to cross the world or drive through zombie hordes, then upgrade vehicles with survival-focused modifications. Against undead with aggressive, unpredictable attacks, the game offers precise shooting as well as explosives. Survivors can also recruit residents, construct shelter facilities and draw on the community’s production or help in combat and exploration.
The play format spans single-player and multiplayer, with cooperative survival against waves or giant mutant zombies alongside competitive combat zones where players contest rare resources.
