Dark Deity 2 returns to Verroa a quarter-century after Irving and the Eternal Order rebuilt the land in hopes of protecting it from another war. That effort faces a threat from the neighboring Holy Asverellian Empire, while internal factions leave the country politically fragile. Players lead the Eternal Delegation, with Irving’s descendants Gwyn and Riordian navigating alliances as the conflict approaches. Those political choices shape both the alliances and the army they command.
The game centers on turn-based tactical combat, with twenty heroes and forty-five branching classes offering different abilities, passive effects, and battlefield roles. Skills, abilities, and gear can further change how a unit performs, making party composition and tactical experimentation part of the design. Heroes also form bonds under pressure, with hardship capable of strengthening relationships or damaging them. Choices about which factions to support can alter later battles, tying the political story to the campaign’s strategic decisions.
A built-in randomizer and campaign customization suite adds another way to approach the campaign, including randomized recruitment and adjustable difficulty settings for stats, aptitude, experience, and gold. These options reinforce the game’s emphasis on varied runs alongside its branching classes and consequential choices.
