Crawl recasts dungeon crawling as a contest where friends take control of the danger. Players explore randomly generated dungeons filled with traps and monsters, but those threats are controlled by the other players. When a friend kills the current hero, that player takes over the crawl, shifting the role of hunter and hunted as the run develops.
Progression feeds into a showdown: gather XP and loot, then face the others while they control the limbs of a hulking final boss. During each game, characters can level up and collect weapons, spells, and items, while monsters can evolve from weak creatures into demons and undead warriors. That mix of player-controlled enemies and changing roles gives Crawl its distinctive spin on the familiar dungeon-crawler format.
Crawl supports solo play with single-player AI, as well as local multiplayer for up to four players; it also offers challenges and unlockable items.
