Cossacks: Back to War Brings Historical Real-Time Strategy to Standalone Play

Cossacks: Back to War is a standalone real-time strategy game set in Europe between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. Its historical setting frames large-scale conflicts across a roster of European powers, with Switzerland and Hungary added as playable nations. The game also includes the features of Cossacks: European Wars and Cossacks: The Art of War, so its identity rests on an expansive strategy package rather than a single campaign premise.

Battles can involve as many as 8,000 units, while four difficulty levels offer different challenges. Alongside 100 single missions, players can command 20 nations and deploy the new Swiss and Hungarian forces, each adding units to the strategic mix. The format also supports offline Ad-Hoc multiplayer and AI skirmishes on randomly generated maps, giving players distinct ways to approach its historical warfare, whether following authored missions or facing computer opponents.

Its battles emphasize scale, while the historical roster and varied play formats shape the experience around commanding armies across a broad European setting.
