Cossacks 3 is a real-time strategy game set amid conflicts of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Europe. Its single-player campaigns draw on historical battles, with objectives ranging from liberating Turin to defending Mogilev. Rather than treating each encounter as a skirmish in isolation, the game places battlefield command alongside the work of building and sustaining an army.
Its economy asks players to send peasants to mine resources, gather wood and manage crops while developing settlements and pursuing victories. Research, varied unit types and buildings create a broad tactical toolkit, while terrain influences battle decisions. These systems connect long-term resource planning with command over large forces.
After the campaigns, players can take their strategy into multiplayer, where up to eight commanders may compete or form alliances against an AI opponent. The game also offers single-player and multiplayer map generation, giving its battles a format that can shift from historical scenarios to player-shaped matches.
