CONTRACTED casts the player as a highly skilled agent working for Harmond Intl, sent to contain infections at locations ranging from campsites to caves. Its outbreak premise gives the action a sharp survival-horror edge: infected people attack anything that moves, and one successful bite can kill. The danger is not limited to direct attacks, either, since blood spilled while fighting can contaminate the player and cause disorientation before death.
Combat asks players to weigh force against caution. Harmond Intl’s weapons become more accessible as the agent builds reputation, but the game also presents stealth as a useful alternative to firepower. Infected react to nearby noise, detect the player through line of sight, and search around the player’s last known position. Melee attacks can push them back, while headshots deal extra damage, giving encounters several concrete tactical considerations. The locations span tight hospital interiors and more open campsites, setting different spatial contexts for these threats.
Alongside its outbreak missions, CONTRACTED offers a score-based Horde Mode with a distinct arcade format: ammunition drops from infected, weapons are bought with coins, and the mode removes reloading and damage from explosions.
