Set after Red Alert 3, Uprising follows a world unsettled by the war: the Soviets are reeling from defeat, the Empire of the Rising Sun is trying to recover its identity, and the apparently victorious Allies face corruption within their ranks. Its four mini-campaigns revisit the three factions’ stories and add a separate account of Yuriko Omega, the Japanese commando whose rise from captive to assassin gives the expansion a more personal strand alongside its factional conflicts.
The game pairs those narrative missions with a distinctly varied set of strategy challenges. Yuriko’s campaign is described as a dungeon crawler, while Commander’s Challenge puts players through 50 trials against nine commanders, with par times to beat, new units unlocked along the way, and increasingly difficult opponents. The scenarios lean into Red Alert’s exaggerated tone, pitting players against such threats as parachuting war bears, falling satellites, and armies of Yurikos. Eleven new units, including the amphibious Grinder and flying Giga-Fortress, further broaden the battlefield’s roster.
That mix of faction campaigns, a character-centered dungeon-crawler story, and standalone challenge missions gives Uprising a more varied play format than a single continuous campaign.
