Cogs is a single-player puzzle game built around constructing machines from sliding tiles. Its puzzles ask you to arrange components into functioning contraptions, drawing on gadgets such as gears, pipes, balloons, chimes, hammers, wheels, and props. The appeal lies in treating a machine as both a mechanical arrangement and a spatial problem: each tile movement contributes to completing the build.
The game offers three distinct ways to approach its puzzles. Inventor Mode introduces the available widgets through simpler challenges, while Time Challenge Mode revisits puzzles completed there with a tighter clock and a lower move allowance. Move Challenge Mode changes the pressure in another direction, giving players more time but restricting each solution to ten moves. These variations make efficiency, speed, and advance planning central to the experience rather than relying on one universal puzzle rhythm.
With fifty levels and new puzzles unlocked for building contraptions quickly and efficiently, Cogs emphasizes methodical experimentation as well as solving.
