Clockwork Tales: Of Glass and Ink frames a supernatural mystery around a world shaken by a continuing string of earthquakes. When Dr. Ambrose Ink disappears after investigating the cause in the mountain town of Hochwald, his longtime friend, Agent Evangeline Glass, takes on the rescue and the investigation. The trail leads toward the Barber family castle and a confrontation with the General Engineer of Gottland, giving the adventure a detective-story spine with a distinctly steampunk setting.
The design mixes exploration and sleuthing with action-oriented set pieces rather than sticking to one kind of puzzle-solving. Glass can fly on a glider, impersonate a soldier and battle mechanical creatures, while a mechanical crow named Matthew serves as her sidekick. The story unfolds across hand-drawn locations, with hidden steambugs to discover and achievements to unlock. An additional prequel adventure, “Ink’s Story,” adds another strand to the game’s world.
The appeal here rests on following Glass through a particular narrative, combining investigative progression with varied adventure challenges and a fantastical mechanical aesthetic. That combination gives the game a clear identity: a story-led mystery punctuated by moments of impersonation, gliding and combat.
