CHRONO TRIGGER begins at the Millennial Fair, where Crono meets Marle and a demonstration of Lucca’s Telepod goes wrong. Pursuing Marle through a dimensional rift, Crono travels across eras, from prehistory and the middle ages to the distant future and the End of Time, in a quest to save the planet’s future. That time-spanning premise gives the RPG’s adventure its distinctive shape: the journey moves between different periods rather than remaining in one setting.
Combat uses Active Time Battle Version 2: time continues during fights, and commands become available when a character’s gauge fills. Enemies shift position as battle time passes, making the situation relevant to choosing an action. Characters can also use individual Tech abilities or combine them for two- and three-character attacks, with more than 50 combo types described in the game’s feature list. These systems make encounters about timing and party combinations as well as selecting moves.
This version also updates the original’s graphics, sound, and controls, and includes the Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum dungeons. Its blend of era-spanning exploration and command-based combat defines a focused, story-led RPG experience.
