Set in Shibuya in October 2015, CHAOS;CHILD follows Takuru Miyashiro, a high-school senior and newspaper club president investigating bizarre murders. The killings echo a series that terrified the city six years earlier, after a massive earthquake. As Takuru searches for a pattern the police have not solved, he discovers that people known as gigalomaniacs are beginning to awaken with powers that make their delusions real.
Investigation and perception are closely linked in this single-player visual novel. Players choose whether Takuru explores disturbing nightmares or pleasurable daydreams, choices that affect the realities he perceives and change the story. The mystery unfolds with a team of uniquely talented friends, while shifts in the course of investigations and relationships can open different endings. That combination makes the case more than a straightforward hunt for a killer: the protagonist’s way of seeing events is part of the narrative design.
Its appeal rests on supernatural murders, branching narrative decisions, and character-focused revelations rather than a described multiplayer mode. The game is presented as a stand-alone story with a new cast and ties to the Steins;Gate universe, part of the Science Adventure series.
