Cave Crawlers sends dwarves underground in search of glory and loot, including armor, weapons, potions, and other items. Its caves are more than a backdrop: the journey moves through distinct biomes with changing environments, enemies, and finds, while trapped rooms can offer rewards. The premise pairs treasure hunting with an increasingly dangerous expedition rather than a safe trip between caches.
Combat and character building give each run its own shape. Players choose from weapon-specific talents, spells, and perks, with options ranging from fast dagger attacks to blocking hits or healing allies with a torch. Biome-themed bosses have distinct mechanics and guard access to the next area, and each drops unique loot. Light adds a practical survival concern: torches burn out, so players may need flint and steel when the caves grow dark. Death is permanent for a character, whose items and expertise talents belong to that individual journey.
Cave Crawlers can be played alone or in online co-op, with support for as many as ten players in one game. The source also says the caves grow more powerful as more dwarves adventure together, making party size part of the stated challenge.
