CastleStorm turns a childhood pastime of building and knocking down castles into a comic medieval conflict between knights and Vikings. In its story-driven solo campaign, Sir Gareth leads troops to recover a stolen gem, while battles unfold through a blend of tower defense, real-time strategy, resource management, and physics-based destruction.
Combat asks players to coordinate artillery, ground troops, and spells in real time. A ballista can launch weapons ranging from morningstars and apple grenades to homing eagles and flying sheep, while swordsmen, knights, and donkey riders defend or attack on the ground. Castle construction is part of the strategy: the editor lets players design castles, and their choices shape which troops and resources are available in battle. Levels offer different routes to victory, including capturing a flag, destroying an enemy castle, or completing another objective.
That mix supports both solo play and competitive or cooperative sessions. The game includes local split-screen duels, online multiplayer, and co-op modes, including survival challenges where partners divide control between the ballista and ground forces.
