Cassette Beasts is an open-world RPG set on New Wirral, a remote island where people use cassette tapes to take on the forms of monsters. Exploring the island and recording its creatures are tied to the story’s central goal: finding a way home. In human form, players can also use monster abilities to navigate, solve puzzles, and discover dungeons, giving exploration a role beyond moving between battles.
Combat is turn-based, with elemental interactions that can add buffs or debuffs and even change an opponent’s type. Its defining twist is fusion: any two monster forms can combine into a distinct, animated form, and the strength of a relationship with a companion affects how well the pair fuses. Alongside the open-world adventure, the game offers the Gauntlet, a never-ending battle mode. Its mix of exploration, collection, tactical fights, and companion bonds gives the adventure a broader shape than a battle-only monster collector.
The listed play options include solo play, local multiplayer, online multiplayer, co-op, and PvP. Friends can explore, transform, and fight together locally; online, they can trade monster tapes, battle one-on-one, or team up against Rogue Fusion beasts.
