Set in a fictionalized version of 1980s Latin America, Cartel Tycoon casts players as drug kingpins building an empire under constant pressure. Its central challenge is not simply expansion: production and smuggling must be organized while rogue lieutenants, state authorities, public opinion, and rival forces threaten the business. The premise pairs the fantasy of immense wealth with a criminal world where violence and collapse are ever-present.
The tycoon systems make logistics and loyalty part of the same strategic problem. Players can grow a farming operation into a network of plantations, laboratories, and aerodromes, pursue different upgrade paths, and launder money to develop the empire, hold lieutenants’ allegiance, or bribe politicians. When a capo dies, a lieutenant can take over, turning succession into a defining part of the design rather than a clean reset. The game also features a dynamic narrative system with unique characters.
Its three modes offer distinct ways to approach that premise: Story mode emphasizes narrative, Survival brings hardcore permadeath, and Sandbox allows extensive customization.
