Card-en-Ciel casts players as Neon, a detective specializing in crimes inside full-dive VR games. When an in-development game is overrun by characters from other games, Neon investigates through virtual dungeons. The story-driven setup gives the card battles a playful crossover premise: the foes and allies Neon encounters are represented by characters from those games.
Its combat blends JRPG storytelling with roguelike deckbuilding on a six-by-three playfield. Battles add allies to the deck, which players build up to challenge bosses, while dungeon exploration lets Neon roam freely and choose which enemies to fight. More than 300 character cards have distinct identities and voice performances in English and Japanese. Muse cards add another tactical layer: meet their conditions and they perform, triggering effects that can help assemble powerful combinations. Each Muse also has a vocal song, with the game featuring 50 tracks.
Beyond its story dungeons, Card-en-Ciel includes Grand Battle Dungeons for constructing a deck around a challenge, random events, daily and weekly dungeon challenges with online leaderboards, and real-time online head-to-head battles.
