Cabernet is a single-player, 2D narrative RPG set in a nineteenth-century Eastern European-inspired world with a modern twist. Players guide Liza, a young vampire caught between her remaining humanity and the supernatural life she has entered. The central tension is personal as well as horrific: vampirism threatens to change her mind, and the player’s choices determine whether she leans toward empathy or nihilism.
Exploration and social maneuvering shape Liza’s nights. She mingles with vampiric society and the humans who sustain it, using the moonlit sky to plan a feast and investigate the hidden world around her. Potential victims are individuals with their own needs and troubles, from a kind-hearted coachman to an unraveling newlywed couple. Learning what they want helps Liza lure a meal somewhere secluded, while players may choose to aid or exploit them. Political intrigue, class conflict, and corruption give these encounters a wider setting.
Knowledge of art, literature, history, and science is presented as a practical resource, making observation and understanding part of the game’s approach to survival.
