Burstfire is a competitive first-person shooter built around the clash between an attacking SWAT team and a defending MERC team. Attackers must reach and capture the enemy INTEL COM, while defenders establish positions around that objective. Its deliberately slower combat pace sets up a tactical contest in which preparation and precise action matter more than simply rushing into a fight.
The two sides have different tools for shaping that contest. SWAT can use a Breaching Charge or Hacking Device to get through defenses, while MERC can place wooden barricades and reinforce walls. Other equipment can break weak structures, disable devices, or impede an advance. Players choose from twelve weapons and can equip items freely: Burstfire has no classes or fixed loadouts, so weapon and tool selection is part of the tactical decision-making rather than a role imposed in advance.
Its Burstfire mode uses single-life, single-round matches: dying means losing the game, making survival central to each push or defense. The listed maps are The Compound and Convention. The core appeal is the contrast between breaking into a defended position and building one, with equipment choices supporting either approach.
