BSide: Olivia Lin is desktop software built around Lin Li, a Shanghai woman who studies piano and psychology and is researching the connection between music and memory. Her interests in vinyl records, old films and rainy days give the experience a reflective, personal tone. Rather than presenting a conventional game, the software invites users to spend time with Olivia through music and correspondence.
Users can listen to Olivia’s piano performances, upload MIDI files for the system to turn into music videos, and write her letters about their feelings or thoughts. The described exchange is designed as a personal conversation: Olivia reads the letters and responds. These features make music both something to enjoy and a way to share creative work or inspiration with her.
A dynamic desktop wallpaper extends that presence beyond the app, with the option to start a performance directly from the desktop. The combination of listening, MIDI-based music presentation, letters and wallpaper gives BSide: Olivia Lin its distinctive character as an interactive music-and-companionship tool, shaped around one fictional persona and her interest in how music connects with memory.
