In Brush Burial: Gutter World, Fennel is a devil far from home, trying to make a living in the cities and towns of a frontier world. The setting’s colonial undercarriage frames a harsh struggle for survival, but the game gives players latitude in how they pursue their goals. Its immersive-sim design makes mercy or malice a choice rather than prescribing a single approach.
Fennel’s forked tail is central to both movement and combat, while encounters can draw on improvised or stolen weapons, environmental objects and hand-to-hand takedowns. Fighting is fast and immediate, yet combat can also be avoided altogether. Interconnected levels offer multiple routes to objectives and contain hostile or friendly characters who react to crimes such as stealing, trespassing and murder, making the consequences of a chosen approach part of the play.
The game is structured around one Greater Contract and three Lesser Contracts across four levels designed for replay, with cosmetics earned through challenges and progression.
