Breakwaters is an exploration-survival game set in a procedural world where ocean depths, storms, and enormous Titans threaten island communities. Players gather what the land provides, trade with fishermen or at ports, and help people rebuild amid recurring destruction. The central premise makes the sea more than scenery: it is both a hazard to manage and a resource-rich environment to explore.
Crystals harvested from the world can be refined into items that displace and reshape water, revealing resources below. Stone walls can redirect waves or hold water in place, while structures can alter the landscape, from forming a lake in a valley to flooding lowlands. Players also gather materials, craft for different play styles, and build and customize boats for dangerous weather and encounters with local threats. Titans include island-sized creatures, alongside house-sized Golems, giving exploration a substantial combat danger.
The game offers single-player and online co-op, with mission worlds, creative-mode worlds, and free-survival worlds. Its distinctive hook remains direct interaction with a simulated ocean, paired with procedural islands, crafting, construction, and voyages through hazardous waters.
