BRAVELY DEFAULT II sends four new Heroes of Light into Excillant, a continent threatened by forces connected to the Crystals. Seth, a young sailor, joins Gloria, the exiled princess of Musa, as she sets out to recover her kingdom’s lost Crystals. They travel alongside Adelle, a mercenary, and Elvis, a scholar seeking an asterisk for his late master’s spellbook. The character-driven journey gives the game’s fantasy adventure a clear purpose: restore what was lost and confront the danger facing the land.
Its turn-based battles hinge on the Brave and Default system, which makes control over action timing a central tactical choice. Default lets a character bank up to three extra Brave Points, while Brave spends BP to take multiple actions in one turn. Jobs add another layer: characters can combine primary and secondary classes, pairing abilities to shape a build around balanced combat or a more specialized role. Defeating asterisk bearers grants new jobs, tying these encounters to how players develop their party.
The result is a single-player RPG organized around a continuing story, party development and deliberate turn-based encounters, rather than shared or competitive play. The game’s appeal lies in choosing when to conserve or spend actions, then adapting each character’s abilities to the challenges ahead.
