BPM: BULLETS PER MINUTE casts players as a mighty Valkyrie defending Asgard from the underworld. Its defining rule is musical: the player’s actions and enemy attacks are tied to the soundtrack’s beat, turning each encounter into a test of timing as well as aim. The game draws on retro shooters of the 1990s, but gives their fast, frenetic action a strongly rhythmic structure.
Movement is part of that combat rhythm. Players can double jump, dash, rocket jump and bunny hop to avoid attacks, while weapons have different firing and reloading behavior tied to the beat. Runs take place in randomly generated dungeons, where players collect weapons, abilities and items that can substantially change how a playthrough unfolds. The route toward the final boss includes seven bosses, each with a distinct movement and attack pattern to learn. The game also offers ten characters with different strengths and weaknesses, challenge modes and the option to add custom music.
Its appeal rests on combining shooter movement, rhythmic enemy patterns and changing run equipment, with an epic rock opera soundtrack giving those systems their pulse.
