Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel shifts the series’ action-RPG shooter into a lunar setting, telling the story of Handsome Jack’s rise to power between the first Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Its premise adds a perspective on the familiar villain: players work alongside Jack and encounter the events behind his transformation, with the game emphasizing the morally gray nature of that alliance.
The moon shapes combat as well as scenery. Low gravity lets characters leap and stomp through the air, creating opportunities to attack enemies from above, while ice and laser weapons add distinct tools to the shooting. New space-themed enemies and vehicles for traversing the lunar landscape round out the setting’s combat and exploration. The blend of shooter and RPG mechanics remains central to the design, rather than treating the moon as a backdrop alone.
Players choose among four new character classes, including Wilhelm, Nisha, Athena and a combat-ready Claptrap prototype. The store lists both single-player and multiplayer, along with co-op, so the game supports solo play as well as playing with others.
