Borderlands Game of the Year sends players to Pandora, a lawless, desolate planet where a mercenary seeks the legendary alien stockpile known as The Vault. Its central appeal is a blend of first-person shooting and role-playing progression, framing the search as a combat-heavy expedition through a hostile world.
Players choose among four mercenaries and face enemies with an unusually broad arsenal, from rocket-launching shotguns to revolvers that torch their targets and SMGs firing lightning rounds. The game also features vehicle-to-vehicle combat, while solo play and online co-op for up to four players offer different ways to tackle its action. A distinctive visual style combines traditional rendering with hand-drawn textures, giving the shooter a look apart from conventional first-person games.
This edition also brings together four additional adventures. The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned sends players to Jakobs Cove amid rumors of the undead; Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot centers on an arena challenge against waves of foes. The Secret Armory of General Knoxx expands the story with missions, guns and vehicles, while Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution pits players against an uprising by the once-familiar robots. Together, these additions broaden the trip across Pandora with new settings and threats.
