Book of Demons turns a familiar battle between good and evil into a pop-up-book adventure. In the Paperverse, players descend into the dungeons beneath the Old Cathedral to fight the Archdemon’s forces. Its hand-crafted paper aesthetic accompanies a playful tribute to classic hack-and-slash games, rather than simply reproducing their approach.
Instead of equipping conventional weapons, players use cards to represent items, spells, and skills. Building a useful hand means adapting to each encounter, choosing upgrades and variants, and timing actions against threats such as shields, poison, and enemy spells. Movement and combat are deliberately simplified, making the order of card use a central part of the challenge. Procedurally generated dungeons support exploration, while the campaign’s quests let players choose their length; Flexiscope also adapts sessions to a player’s pace.
Beyond the campaign, Roguelike mode adds a tougher format with permadeath and restricted healing. That combination of adjustable quest sessions, card-based combat, and optional high-challenge play gives the game a distinctive rhythm within the action-RPG space.
