Bloodgrounds frames its tactical battles as part of a revenge story. You play a noble heir seeking vengeance against the Emperor, building a gladiator team and advancing through tournaments toward the Capitol. Between fights, you manage an inherited estate in the coastal city of Marevento, where constructing and upgrading buildings unlocks services and tools for the campaign.
Preparation and combat are closely linked. Gladiators come from physical, ranged, and magical classes; you can recruit them, develop their stats and abilities, address trauma or negative statuses, and equip them for battle. Fights play out in turns on a grid, with initiative determining when units act. Movement, positioning, action points, class or weapon abilities, items, and traps all shape a bout, while Deity powers or a crime lord’s sabotage can offer additional aid. A fallen fighter and their equipment are lost permanently, making each tactical decision carry lasting consequences.
The single-player format centers the experience on a campaign rather than shared arena play: victories bring rewards, while defeating regional Arena Champions advances the age and opens access to further buildings and items.
