Blockstorm puts first-person shooting in a world made from destructible blocks. Its voxel style extends to both maps and characters, and the same in-game editor used to make the included content is available to players. You can build maps and characters from scratch or customize existing ones, giving the game’s setting a distinctly editable quality rather than treating its battlefields as fixed scenery.
Combat offers weapons ranging from precise rifles to heavy machine guns and explosives. Destruction has a tactical role: explosives can demolish hiding places, while players choose a loadout from weapons configured by the map’s creator. That combination connects the game’s editable arenas to its firefights, where the ability to build and destroy sits alongside the choice of equipment. The supported modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, Assault, Castle Battle, and Hunt.
Its defining appeal, though, is the link between combat and creation. Maps, characters, and weapons can be edited, and destructible surroundings let those custom-built spaces serve as more than visual backdrops.
