BioShock 2 returns to Rapture roughly a decade after the first game, with a mystery unfolding along the Atlantic coast: a creature is abducting little girls and taking them to the ruined underwater city. The single-player story casts you as a Big Daddy, pursuing an unseen enemy through Rapture while fighting for answers and survival. Its setting pairs decayed grandeur with the continuing fallout of the city’s past.
Combat builds on the series’ genetically enhanced shooter design. Players can wield weapons and Plasmids together, creating combinations for encounters with powerful enemies. A separate Protector Trials mode shifts the focus to frantic defense: escort a Little Sister to a corpse rich in ADAM and keep her safe while she gathers it, with opposition mounting as the trial progresses. These distinct formats give the game more than one way to engage with Rapture’s combat and fiction.
BioShock 2 also has multiplayer set during Rapture’s civil war, where players take the role of citizens and compete across familiar locations reworked for multiplayer. Experience points unlock weapons, Plasmids and Tonics, letting players build characters around different combinations.
