Beyond The Wire is a multiplayer first-person shooter set on the Western Front of the Great War. Its battles combine period-inspired firearms with close-quarters melee, placing open ground, enemy emplacements and cramped trenches within the same tactical landscape. The historical setting informs the combat, but the game describes itself as an action experience rather than a simulation.
Squad coordination is central to the design: players communicate enemy positions and tactics while taking distinct roles, from Rifleman and Medic to Grenadier, Sniper and Infantry Officer. Factions bring their own equipment, vehicles and maps, while selectable tanks add armored warfare to the battlefield. Melee is more than a fallback, with weapons such as bayonets and cludgels, plus a parry system that creates brief opportunities to counter an attack.
The game is organized around large online team battles, with players divided into squads and a commander overseeing each side. Its blend of squad roles, faction choices and trench-focused terrain defines the experience described here.
