Beholder casts you as the manager of an apartment building in a dystopia where the State intrudes into private life. Keeping the property running is only the outward-facing role; your real work is watching tenants and deciding what to do with what you uncover. That contrast gives the game its distinctive tension: ordinary building management sits beside an assignment to serve an oppressive regime.
Surveillance is hands-on rather than abstract. You can bug apartments when tenants are away, search their belongings, eavesdrop on conversations, and profile residents for your superiors. Reporting suspected lawbreakers may serve the State, while withholding information can offer a tenant a chance to change course. The game also puts your own family’s needs in the picture, making loyalty, compassion, and self-interest competing considerations rather than easy slogans.
Beholder is a single-player adventure with strategy elements, built around characters, quests, consequential decisions, and several possible endings. Each choice can shape how the story unfolds, so the player’s role is both investigator and decision-maker.
