Beat Saber turns music into a physical rhythm challenge: players slash incoming notes with matching color and direction while ducking and dodging to stay with the beat. Its VR-only design makes movement central, and handcrafted levels pair each sequence with its track rather than treating music as a backdrop. Visual effects and haptic feedback add to that close connection between sound and action.
Players can choose a track and difficulty in Solo, work through Campaign objectives, or pass the headset around in Party mode. Online play supports challenges with friends and cross-play matches for up to five players. Five difficulty levels and fifteen gameplay modifiers give players ways to adjust the challenge, while global leaderboards add a competitive goal for those chasing higher rankings.
The music library includes songs with the base game and additional tracks from artists including Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, and Metallica.
