Battleplan: American Civil War is a single-player strategy game built around ten of the Civil War’s most famous battles. Players command Union or Confederate troops in a top-down hybrid that combines real-time action with turn-based planning. Its focus is deliberately narrow: manage the battle, decide where troops should go, and keep them supplied rather than overseeing a broader campaign economy.
Orders and battlefield conditions shape each engagement. The game features automatic and high-level command mechanics, messengers and lines of communication, plus weather, reinforcements, ammunition and supply management. Players can build pontoons and earthworks, while historically accurate corps commander personalities add character to command decisions. Campaign and one-off battle formats, three difficulty settings, and optional challenges such as random reinforcements and No Pause mode offer different ways to approach the fighting.
The battles are described as short and demanding, with some taking as little as ten minutes, and plans can be revised as the situation changes.
