Battlefleet Gothic: Armada adapts Games Workshop’s tabletop battles into a real-time strategy game set amid the Gothic War. Its campaign places commanders in the conflict between the Imperium and Abaddon the Despoiler during the 12th Black Crusade, as Chaos attacks Imperium worlds. The setting’s enormous warships are more than scenery: players direct fleets in space battles and manage individual vessels between engagements.
Fleet preparation is closely tied to combat performance. Players can customize ships’ weapons, defenses, support systems, crews and captains, with those choices affecting their performance and available battle abilities. Surviving crews and admirals gain experience and promotions from battle to battle, preparing their ships for tougher future fights. Four factions, Chaos, Imperium, Eldar and Orks, bring distinct strengths and skills, while lore-based abilities add further tactical options.
The game offers an expansive single-player campaign as well as tactical PvP, including multiplayer battles for up to four players and persistent fleets. Its defining appeal is the combination of detailed ship management and real-time command of a sprawling Gothic-sector war.
