Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 adapts Games Workshop’s tabletop space battles into real-time strategy, set amid the Warhammer 40,000 universe’s Gathering Storm and 13th Black Crusade. Its focus is not ground combat but commanding fleets in clashes across the Eye of Terror. Three solo campaigns center on the Tyranids, Necrons and Imperium, placing the game’s large-scale naval warfare within distinct faction-led stories.
Fleet composition and ship customization are central to its design: the game draws on all twelve factions from the tabletop game and expansions, while offering additional customization choices for ships and fleets. Battles feature larger fleets than the original game, and refined strategy gameplay provides the framework for directing those forces. The resulting appeal lies in combining faction identity, fleet preparation and dramatic real-time engagements rather than presenting a single campaign as the whole experience.
The play format spans solo campaigns as well as multiplayer, including online PvP and co-op, with cross-platform multiplayer listed among its features. The game’s identity is therefore rooted in both its narrative campaigns and its options for taking fleet warfare into multiplayer.
