Battleborn is a hero-focused action game built around a roster of distinctive fighters, each equipped with unique weapons and powers. Its mix of competitive multiplayer and a PvE story mode gives those characters more than one setting: players can take them into team battles or story missions, with character progression carrying across those activities.
The competitive matches put two teams against each other, but their objectives vary by mode. Incursion asks each side to defend its base from AI-controlled minions while pushing alongside its own minions to destroy the opposing base. In Meltdown, teams guide minions toward an incinerator and score as they arrive; Capture instead centers on seizing and holding map objectives. Face-Off adds Varelsi hunts, mask collection, and the need to deny the opposing team points as the enemies grow tougher.
Progression gives matches a longer arc: heroes can rank up, adjust augments in their Helix skill trees, and unlock skins, while Command Rank advances the player profile and grants loot usable by any hero. The separate story mode provides another context for Battleborn’s hero roster and progression.
