Banners of Ruin casts players as members of the Blackfoots, a faction struck by House Ender and seeking to penetrate its defences in the city of Dawn’s Point. The journey builds toward confronting elite opponents and the city’s Guard Captain, giving the campaign a clear goal of striking at the Enders’ power. Its premise sets up a struggle for survival as well as revenge: the game notes that a run can fail, while others may continue the Blackfoots’ cause.
Combat is built around a deck of cards and a party of up to six characters. The roster draws on six races, each with its own card pool and passive abilities, while allies can add distinctive cards and skills to the deck. Players can acquire cards by looting, buying or unlocking them, and character levels open talent cards and passives. Weapons and armour add further effects, making party composition and deck-building central to the tactical choices described for each run.
Between battles, a dynamic, card-driven campaign moves through Dawn’s Point and presents encounters with potentially positive or negative outcomes, sometimes at a moral cost.
