Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition continues the Bhaalspawn story with a stark opening: the wizard Irenicus has kidnapped, imprisoned, and tortured the protagonist, seeking the powers tied to their birthright. After escaping, players confront a defining choice: resist the evil in their blood or pursue the possibility of becoming the new Lord of Murder. The story can follow a hero carried forward from Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition or begin with a newly created protagonist.
Its classic 2D isometric presentation frames a role-playing game built around character choices and tactical encounters. Combat unfolds in real time, but pausing lets players assess the situation and direct their party, a deliberate alternative to purely reflex-driven action. Eleven playable classes, numerous subclasses, and companions including Minsc and Jaheira give the adventure a broad cast and varied character-building options. Story Mode favors relaxed exploration and narrative focus, while Legacy of Bhaal offers a much harsher challenge.
The package brings together the Shadows of Amn campaign, the Throne of Bhaal conclusion, and Black Pits II: Gladiators of Thay, a separate gauntlet of strategic battles. Its listed play formats include single-player, multiplayer, and co-op, with cross-platform multiplayer also supported.
